December Winter Events
30 November–2 December & 7–9 December: Christmas Gift Fair with Made in Essex, RHS Garden Hyde Hall Find unique gifts created by local Essex-based artisans. www.rhs.org.uk/hyde-hall
Thursdays–Saturdays until 29 December: ‘Glow’ Winter Illuminations, RHS Garden Harlow Carr See the most northerly RHS garden in a different light this winter. Special lighting effects bring a burst of colour to the Lake, Winter Walk, Streamside and Alpine House.
Thursdays–Saturdays until 5 January: ‘Glow’ Magical Garden Illuminations, RHS Garden Rosemoor Follow the festive illuminations along a new route, extended to the Lake for the first time. Colour-changing lights brightening up trees, shrubs and sculptures to delight.
Until 5 January: Christmas Trees by the WI, RHS Garden Hyde Hall Women’s Institute members from across Essex return to Hyde Hall to adorn the garden’s Christmas trees with decorations
Until 24 February: Winter Sculpture Exhibition, RHS Garden Rosemoor Throughout the Garden, discover an exciting and eclectic mix of exhibits. From a diverse collection of artists, and perhaps choose a favourite piece to buy and take home.
1 December–2 January: Christmas Glow, RHS Garden Wisley Wrap up warm, pick up a hot drink and follow the illuminated trail around the garden after dark to discover giant botanical light displays, and a festive spectacle in the Glasshouse.
8 December: Traditional Festive Wreaths Workshop, RHS Garden Rosemoor Local floral designer Sarah Pepper will demonstrate how to use dried fruits, ribbons, cones and seasonal foliage from Rosemoor’s gardens to create a traditional wreath for your front door.
12 December: Behind-the-Scenes Laboratory Tour, RHS Garden Wisley Discover what happens behind the doors of Wisley’s iconic Laboratory. These winter events gain an insight into the amazing work taking place, including a visit to the Research Library, usually open by appointment only.
15–16 December: Christmas Food & Craft Fair, RHS Garden Rosemoor Find unique, hand-crafted gifts and a tempting selection of seasonal food and drink to take home at this festive fair in Rosemoor’s Garden Room.
15 December–20 January: Textiles, Prints and Photography Exhibition, RHS Garden Rosemoor A joint exhibition by Jenny Bone, Alan Dilly, Douglas Anderson and Kevin McDonagh featuring wildlife and landscape artworks in a range of media.
26 December: Boxing Day Woodland Walk, RHS Garden Hyde Hall Enjoy a breath of fresh air after a day of indulgence on this circular family-friendly stroll with one of Hyde Hall’s knowledgeable garden volunteers, taking in the sights and sounds of the woodland. www.rhs.org.uk/hyde-hall

1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 January: Woodland Walks, RHS Garden Hyde Hall Take a guided walk around Hyde Hall’s woodland and learn about how Hyde Hall’s woodland changes through the seasons.
5–20 January: Rob Munday Art Exhibition, RHS Garden Wisley The Little Black Gallery brings holographic artist Rob Munday’s hyper-realistic photo boxes to the Glasshouse Gallery, for a look at exotic blooms in 3D.
5 January–7 February: Japanese Art Exhibition, RHS Garden Harlow Carr See handmade pictures in the style of Hiroshige, the last great master of the Ukiyo-e (‘pictures of the floating world’) tradition. Using traditional woodblock printing techniques, as the garden hosts its first ever exhibition of Japanese art.
11 January: Winter Walk and Talk, RHS Garden Wisley Join Wisley’s enthusiastic curatorial team on a walk and talk around the garden and learn about the plants that put on a show in the coldest months of the year, plus what to look out for in the coming months.
19–20 January: Gardenalia Sale, RHS Garden Rosemoor Head to Rosemoor’s Garden Room to browse new and vintage ornaments, furniture and decorative finds for the garden, and choose unique pieces to take home.
February Winter Events
2 February–3 March: Embroidery Exhibition, RHS Garden Harlow Carr Head to the Library to see an embroidered depiction of the fiery red Cornus stems and striking silver birch trees on Harlow Carr’s Winter Walk, produced by talented members of the Richmond & Leyburn branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild. www.rhs.org.uk/harlowcarr
2–3 February: Snowdrop Weekend, RHS Garden Rosemoor Discover rare and unusual varieties of this early spring favourite to buy from some of the UK’s top growers and nurseries, and join guided walks to see drifts of snowdrops around the garden. www.rhs.org.uk/rosemoor
5, 12, 19 & 26 February: Woodland Walks, RHS Garden Hyde Hall Take a guided walk around Hyde Hall’s woodland with one of the garden’s volunteers and learn about how Hyde Hall’s woodland changes through the seasons.
9–10 February: Orchid Exhibition, RHS Garden Rosemoor Join some of the UK’s top orchid nurseries to see some of the most beautiful and unusual varieties, choose plants to buy and take home and ask advice from passionate expert growers.
9–10 February: RHS Early Spring Show, RHS Garden Hyde Hall In its first year at Hyde Hall, expect to find inspiring displays of beautiful and unusual early spring-flowering bulbs and plants to buy from some of the country’s top growers and nurseries.
16 February: Rosemoor Live! with Jason Donovan, RHS Garden Rosemoor 80s TV and pop legend Jason Donovan brings his ‘Amazing Midlife Crisis’ tour to North Devon as he celebrates his 50th birthday with a mix of intriguing personal stories and some of his best-loved songs.
