Over 60 volunteer gardeners put their green thumbs to work last weekend, joining Lady Penelope Gardens in a gardening party at St Wilfrid’s brand-new Hospice in Bosham, West Sussex.
The Company has been working with the Hospice and its team of volunteer gardeners since Winter last year. The beautifully landscaped gardens are sure to be a huge comfort to Hospice patients and their families, not forgetting the staff who care for them, when St Wilfrid’s complete their move on 8 July.
Angela Palmerton, CEO and Founder of Lady Penelope Gardens, said:
“This was my opportunity to give something back to a hospice, following personal experiences of the fantastic work they do. The chance came when I heard that St Wilfrid’s was building a new Hospice with the space and modern facilities they urgently needed”.
The landscape design had already been completed by others before their involvement in the project. Leaving the task of planting and maintenance to Lady Penelope Gardens.
Angela has donated her time to implement the soft landscaping designs for the new hospice garden, and some of her team also gave up their weekend to come and help voluntarily for the Big Planting Weekend. Angela will continue to work with the long-standing team of volunteers in the aftercare and establishment of the new scheme.
“It was a real joy to work with staff members and their families, Bosham locals and the St Wilfrid’s team of volunteer gardeners this past weekend as we planted a whopping 4500 plants! We couldn’t have done it without them!
We are also very grateful for the support of Quercus Nursery who gave us an excellent deal on plants, and Fargro who helped us with horticultural supplies.”
