Pro Landscaper attended the Invasives Science Live workshop in Cardiff last week. The event was a ‘who’s who’ in the weed killing industry, and the day was packed with informative talks and an onsite visit.
The day began at the St David’s Hotel where attendees were given a run-through on the history of glyphosate, from its conception in 1950, all the way to existing legislation on the weed killer.
This was followed by talks from Advanced Invasives on the dangers of Japanese Knotweed, how it is best dealt with, and the impact it can have on property.
Attendees were then taken to a test site that investigates the latest methods in weed killing, how certain variants can spread and the various factors that come into play when it comes to maintaining a weed free space.
The event was sponsored by Green-Tech, Complete Weed Control, Advanced Invasives and ICL.
Pro Landscaper caught up with Green-Tech sales director Richard Gill, to find out their involvement in this crucial part of the industry:
“This sell-out event has been a brilliant success for us all. Green-Tech’s aim with these events is to educate the industry about the threat invasive species present, and then help to supply the correct products that are best suited to tackle them.
“This is our third workshop of the year. We held one event up at the Green-Tech facility in York, and another in Coventry at the BALI HQ.
“We’re aiming to put on a third workshop in London this November and then to hold a final event in Scotland to provide nationwide coverage of this essential information.”
