    Honorary doctorate for Alan Power

    Alan Power, garden and estate manager for the National Trust’s Stourhead Garden in Wiltshire, has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree by Writtle University College for services to the horticultural sector. Power graduated from the college in 1993 and has since become a regular contributor to the BBC’s British Gardens in Time series and Gardeners’ World, as well as Radio Four’s PM programme.

    The award was presented at the annual graduation ceremony on 9 September at Chelmsford Cathedral. Students receiving special awards included Kieran Linale for best landscape planting design or thesis (undergraduate); Sinyae Hwang for best landscape planting design or theses (postgraduate); Dawn Park, winner of the Liz Lake Associates postgraduate landscape architecture prize for best written dissertation; Jin-Koo Park, winner of the Liz Lake Associates postgraduate landscape architecture prize for top design student; and Daniel Kilpatrick, given the Chartered Institute of Horticulture award for the best plant knowledge.
