Pro Landscaper Chelsea Blogs: Abbie’s first experience

first

My first experience of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show was amazing, I adored every second of it! From stepping out of the underground station at Sloane Square, I was immediately excited by the way the surrounding area got involved with the show, with shops fronts adorning beautiful flower displays – I wish London was always blooming like that!

Laced With Hope

It was lovely that the sun was shining for my first Chelsea experience, and it was wonderful seeing all the gardens in person after really getting to know them, and the meaning behind them, whilst putting together the Pro Landscaper Chelsea Supplement. The whole experience was a real feast for the eyes; of course the fabulously floral displays were second to none, but the selection of summer dresses also satisfied my sartorial interest, and naturally I did enjoy a bit of celeb spotting.

My favourite thing, I must say, was seeing the joy on the faces of the garden designers and builders. Having put in so much hard work and to see and interact with people enjoying the fruits of their labour was wonderful, and I can only imagine how relieved they must be.

It’s also worth noting that the new Space to Grow gardens were hugely inspiring, and I’d imagine they would be for a plethora of people. I think it’s great that the RHS decided to showcase garden designs which are much more accessible to the public and which can be recreated in any growing space – here’s hoping we see more of that!

Overall, I cannot critique my first Chelsea experience. It was something I’ll never forget, and I had the most amazing time – bring on the 2019 show!
