Nurseries’ investment in transplants pays off

Wyevale Nurseries has reported a bumper crop of transplants this year (2014) thanks to a new field irrigation system. The company, which is one of the UK’s leading nurseries, invested £25,000 in the system and has seen sales in its transplants division up 10% compared to the 2012/13 season. Barcham’s new calender features famous old trees

Barcham Trees, Europe’s largest container tree nursery, is once more producing its popular 18 month desk calendar, which runs from January 2015 to June 2016. The latest version, which is available from December 2014, features specially commissioned drawings of historic and veteran trees from around the United Kingdom. These include a beech in the grounds of Stowlangtoft Hall Suffolk – possibly Britain’s scariest tree – the Repton Oak in Attingham Park, Shropshire, and an old sycamore known as the Tolpuddle Martyrs’ tree. The Directors of North Yorkshire nursery Johnsons of Whixley Ltd enjoyed a day out recently at HSBC Tower, Canary Wharf, London as guests of HSBC Bank plc. . Allan Wilkinson (Head of Agriculture) invited the group in recognition of a relationship spanning 50 years since John Richardson (Chairman) bought the business from Mr Eric Johnson a veteran of the Great War. The group enjoyed a celebratory lunch and a tour the 42 floor building which houses 7,000 employees and has unrivalled views of central London.
