Burleys invest in three Iveco commercial vehicles

  Burleys, one of the foremost grounds maintenance companies in the South East, has taken delivery of three Iveco New Daily light commercials – each benefiting from a factory-built seven-person crew cab. The new vehicles will be used by Burleys on its grounds maintenance contracts, including one with Runnymede Borough Council to maintain the areas around the Magna Carta monument next to the River Thames. After 48 years in grounds maintenance, Brian Wood, 68 years old, retired on 30thSeptember 2015. Brian has worked for The Landscape Group for 12 years, but before that he worked under Dover Council mowing the grass, cutting the verges and tending to the bowling green and gardens in Dover. The multitasking worker also spent seven years as a grave digger. During those seven years, Brian recalls working in all weathers including snow and floods. Fenland District Council appoints ISS as new grounds contractor

  Fenland District Council is delighted to announce ISS Facility Services Landscaping as its new horticultural services contractor, commencing 1st November 2015. Scotscape maintenance regeneration project – The Croydon Tramlink

The Scotscape team have maintained the 28km of trackside vegetation alongside the Croydon Tramlink for over 12 years. They were asked to look at a 450 m heavily wooded section of track with steep banks on either side as a number of the trees were failing and there was a risk that they could fall across the line. Our solution was to instigate the ancient practice of coppicing. This is a traditional method of woodland management where existing trees are reduced to stumps which then in turn produce new growth.   Quadron’s Horticultural Development Manager, Nicola Clarke, together with Horticultural Supervisor, Martin Botham, and Queen’s Park Head Gardener, Dave Douse, were delighted to welcome volunteers from Loughborough College to help undertake some horticultural duties in Queen’s Park, Loughborough. Following a health and safety briefing, the students set to work clearing out the summer bedding from the flowerbeds around the bandstand in readiness for the winter.
