Taunton Flower Show buzz words: ‘Save the Bees’

Taunton Flower show in Vivary Park, Somerset takes place on the 3rd and 4th of August and has only one thing buzzing in its mind this year: bees. Taunton’s yearly event, the Honey Show, will see beekeepers from all around the country competing in 32 classes to find best honey, hive products and honey cookery. Last week the UK’s first urban garden festival took place in Manchester, Dig the City. The 2012 Festival was the first of what will become an annual event, celebrating all things gardening and horticulture. For a whole week the medieval quarter of Manchester, including Manchester’s Cathedral, Arndale and Exchange Square area was transformed into a floral and horticultural extravaganza. Titchmarsh opens New Forest Show

TV GARDENING expert Alan Titchmarsh today described the New Forest Show as one of the premier agricultural events in the UK.  The former Gardener’s World and Ground Force presenter was speaking at the opening of the three day show, which is expected to attract at least 100,00 people. Lafarge Helps Pave the Way to a Riot of Colour at Hampton Court Flower Show

Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK joined forces with urban gardening pioneers, The Edible Bus Stop, to create a striking installation inspired by the 2011 London riots for the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show.   The garden, entitled ‘Riot of Colour’ was an interpretation of the after effects of the rioting, depicting a scene where nature has reclaimed and softened a brutal urban landscape. Devised by landscape architect Will Sandy, the installation included areas of wild planting and bright colours set against stark post-apocalyptic artefacts and a strip of hard landscaping which was donated and installed by Lafarge and its partner company, Aggregates Direct. Tatton Park Flower Show has announced the winners of this year’s garden awards. Best in Show: Gold medal winner BEST SHOW GARDEN The Mornflake Garden Designed and built by Janine Crimmins This garden celebrates oat production and milling as both a traditional and progressive industry. Selection Competition at RHS Tatton Park

At this year’s RHS Tatton Park (18-22nd July) is the WorldSkills Leipzig 2013 Squad UK Selection Competition for Landscape Gardening. The competitors are ages between 18 and 23 and will work in pairs to each build a different garden. There are four gardens, all of which have been built at previous Worldskills competitions. The work will be overseen by Harry Turner, the Landscape Gardening Training Manager for Squad and Team UK.
