Astilbe ‘Chocolate Cherry’ (MIGHTY) has been selected as the best novelty at Plantarium 2016. The plant was entered into the competition by Compass Plants BV from Hillegom. According to the jury, everything about this plant was right, the plant structure is perfect, it is full of leaves in an attractive, dark green colour and also has brown-bronze young leaves. The Alpine Garden Society won gold at last month’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show with its exhibit titled ‘Out of the Woods’. The garden was designed by Christopher Grey-Wilson to show the great range and versatility of alpine plants, the ease of growing them and their adaptability in gardens of all sizes.
