Ground maintenance firm at Downham Market celebrates its 30th anniversary

What started off as a one-man contract to tend a churchyard 30 years ago has turned into a leading grounds maintenance company employing more than 180.

Country Grounds Maintenance Ltd has offices and customers throughout East Anglia with its head office at Bexwell Business Park, near Downham.

As well as its 30th anniversary, it is also celebrating recently gaining a top safety accreditation for occupational health and safety management.

The safety accreditation recognises that CGM has in place policies and procedures needed for the business to achieve the best possible working conditions.

CGM Ltd founder Tim Glover said “This is a huge achievement and has been a team effort getting to this point. The accreditation will enhance the company’s ability to attract new contracts and its commitment to safety will be viewed positively by its insurers.”

CGM specialises in grounds maintenance, landscaping and arboriculture and cleaning services.

Tim, who is the managing director, started the business in 1985 when he took on board maintaining the churchyard for a parish council. The contract remains in place today. Other parish council contracts followed on and led to another person joining the team. Tim’s wife, Julie, became company secretary in 1989, the same year they won their first contract with the local authority. Over the years, CGM has continually expanded with investment in machinery and skilled staff, ensuring that every department delivers top quality service by professionals.

CGM opened its Norwich branch in 2006, shortly followed by one in Cambridge in 2009.

Tim has remained committed to providing clients with every service needed for landscaping and grounds maintenance. It deals with domestic gardens, highways, invasive plant diagnosis, interior landscaping plus cleaning windows and cladding and vacuuming drains.

The business has recently introduced a pest control service, too.

CGM has a wide variety of contracts and has built up a strong client base with commercial, retail, industrial and domestic customers too.

He said: “The secret is to deliver exactly what the customer requires regardless of the size of the contract or the nature of the project. Our expert management team and highly skilled staff bring knowledge and expertise to every project every time for every customer.”
