Green Flag rewards Gosport’s Crescent Gardens for keeping up standards

Public parks and green spaces up and down the country have been named on a list for this year’s Green Flag awards as a mark of excellence.

crescentGosport’s Crescent Gardens was among the 1,582 parks and open spaces on the list, and has been named one of the best parks in the country. The garden will fly its green flag overhead as a sign that it boasts the highest standards in beautifully maintained space as well providing excellent facilities to its visitors.

Crescent Gardens was created as a new relaxing recreational area for Gosport residents in 1826. Now the Gardens are overseen and maintained by Friends of Crescent Gardens in partnership with Gosport Borough Council. Receiving the Green Flag award has been praised by the council, which helped maintain the high standards of beauty in the Gardens.

Councillor Graham Burgess said: ‘We are absolutely delighted to receive the Green Flag award. It has recognised and highlighted the hard work put in and that the people of Gosport are benefiting from a green space of the very highest quality. It is also great recognition for Friends of Crescent Gardens and their landscape team who keep the gardens to the highest standard throughout the year.’

The announcement coincides with national Love Parks Week, which sees parks around the country celebrate their hard work and the effort community groups put in towards maintaining green spaces in the UK.

Manager of the awards scheme organised by Green Flag, Paul Todd, has congratulated all the winning parks on this year’s list for their dedication to keeping these spaces looking perfect for the public. He said: ‘We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year of the Green Flag award scheme. All the flags flying this year are testament to the efforts of the thousands of volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag scheme.’
