Gavin Jones appoints two new directors for Clifton Nurseries
Gavin Jones Ltd has announced the appointment of David Morley as retail director and Dennis Espley as a non-executive director to develop its Clifton Nurseries operations, acquired by the Group in June 2016.
David is appointed as retail director with a combination of 29 years’ experience at a senior level with the John Lewis Partnership – most recently as general manager of both of John Lewis’ London flagship stores on Oxford Street and prior to that at Peter Jones in Chelsea – coupled with his most recent position with the RHS as director of gardens, shows and retail. Having worked with two such iconic and trusted household names, David is perhaps uniquely-equipped to lead the growth of the much-loved Clifton Nurseries brand; first established in 1851 and offering a superb collection of house and garden plants and accessories, The Quince Tree Café and an elegant and unique space for events, from society weddings to private parties, together with garden design, build and aftercare services – regularly referred to as ‘a hidden gem’, nestled in Maida Vale, London.
David’s responsibilities include future ambitious development plans for the integration of Cliftons’ retail, catering and events services with that which are currently offered at the stylish Gavin Jones Garden Centre and HQ located near Weybridge, Surrey.
Dennis has a long pedigree in Garden Centre retail and, following his retirement as managing director of Squires in 2016, was persuaded to undertake a part-time non-executive role to share his knowledge and experience of the sector. Dennis is enthusiastic about the potential of Clifton Nurseries’ unique location and style, and will be a great support to David in the future development of the brand.
