Final four young landscapers selected for Young Landscapers Award

young

Earlier this year, BBC Gardeners’ World Live announced the launch of the BBC Gardeners’ World Live Young Landscapers Award, in conjunction with the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL). Just a couple of months later, the names of the four talented contestants have been named:

In the red corner:

Jacob Botting and Harvey Miller (Company: Bespoke Outdoor Spaces)

And in the blue corner:

Dan McGeoghegan and Ryan Bell (Company: The Plants & Paving Company)

The two teams now go forward to each build a Show Garden designed by Diarmuid Gavin – both displaying a wide variety of techniques and materials requiring an outstanding array skills and craftsmanship to be demonstrated by the contestants. The competition is a platform to promote excellence and support up and coming landscapers, encouraging them to engage with high profile projects.

Visitors to the Show will appreciate the diversity of ideas and solutions displayed within the two gardens. Visitors will also gain a heightened understanding of the results that can be achieved in their own garden when employing the skills of an accredited landscaping company.

The gardens will be built using a variety of hard landscaping products in the domestic ranges from sponsors Marshalls. In addition, the landscaping and horticultural trades have come together to support the competition including plants donated by JA Jones, mentoring from Landscape Skills Academy, decking from EcoDek and sculptures from artist Simon Probyn.

With both gardens completed and assessed to WorldSkills UK standards on Wednesday 13 June, one duo will be crowned the same day as BBC Gardeners’ World Live Young Landscapers of 2018. The Show then opens to the public on Thursday 14 June where the finished Show Gardens will be on view for all to see.
